Hunter's Green in New Tampa (Tampa, FL 33647): Hunter's Green is a guard-gated 1991 New Tampa community of 23 enclaves between Bruce B. Downs Blvd and Highland Oak Dr, built around the private Tom Fazio course at Hunter's Green Country Club and bordered by Flatwoods Park. Dog owners have an off-leash dog park and a jogging trail inside the gates, with Flatwoods Park next door; summer walks at sunrise and after 7 p.m. We live a few streets over in Cross Creek, on the same side of the county line.
A pet visit here is a full 30 or 60 minutes: out, fed, watered, walked, played with, and a photo sent before we leave. In summer the walks are at sunrise and after 7 p.m., because the pavement on a New Tampa sidewalk at 2 p.m. in July is too hot for paws, and in the rainy season the storms come through between 3 and 6 in the afternoon, so afternoon visits are timed around them. A midday visit in summer is a shaded potty break and fresh water, not a long walk. Hunter's Green has its own dog park, and that is where a 60-minute visit usually ends.
Both gatehouses are manned 24/7 (Gatehouse 1 on Bruce B. Downs, Gatehouse 2 on Cross Creek Blvd); the third, unmanned TAC gate closes at 10 p.m. daily. Register us as a guest through the association's FrontSteps system before the first visit; the attendant checks ID, and if a name is not on the list the attendant calls you, and no answer means no entry. The amenity center is resident-fob restricted, so if you want us at the pool or clubhouse with your kids or your dog, we need your fob. Overnights in your own home ($95/night) keep the routine intact when you travel, and multiple drop-ins on the same day cover a long workday.
