The year in Wesley Chapel, FL is set by the snowbirds, the school boards, the rainy season, the hurricane season and, twice a year, the lovebugs. This post walks through the year in order, with what a household tends to need in each stretch of it. Nothing here is required in any month, and it is a guide rather than a schedule.
January and February: the seasonal peak
The winter residents are all here. The clubhouse parking lots fill up, and the adult children come down for a week to visit their parents in Esplanade at Wiregrass Ranch or in the older neighborhoods off SR 54.
- Home watch is quieter for the occupied houses but not for the year-round owners who go north for a ski week or a family visit. A single home watch visit is $45, with a same-day photo report.
- Pet visits for visiting families. The grandkids bring the dog, and somebody needs to let it out while everyone is at the beach or the outlets. A 30-minute visit is $25.
- Companion visits for parents whose children just flew home. The week after a family visit is often the quietest of the year.
March: spring break
In 2027 both school districts take the same spring break week, March 22 through 26, with a teacher day on Monday, March 29. That is not guaranteed every year, so check both calendars each summer. Spring break here means a full house or an empty one: cousins down from Ohio, or the family at the coast for the week and the dog and cat at home.
- Babysitting for the parents who are working the week their kids are not. It is $24 an hour with a 2-hour minimum.
- Pet visits and overnights for the families who travel. The overnight in your home is $95, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
April and May: lovebugs and the close-up
Lovebugs arrive for about 4 weeks somewhere in the late-April-to-May window. They do not bite or sting, and they cover a windshield and stick to paint. Wash the car, rinse the front of the house, and keep the lanai screens closed.
This is also when the seasonal residents leave and the winter houses empty out for 6 months or so. The close-up visit is what keeps an empty house from becoming a problem in August.
- Home watch close-up. The last walkthrough before the owner leaves, then the monthly plan: weekly visits are $150 a month, every-other-week visits are $85 a month, and both include hurricane prep and a post-storm check.
- Errands for the owner who is leaving with a list, at $30 an hour.
June: hurricane season opens, rainy season begins
June 1 is the first day of Atlantic hurricane season, which runs to November 30. It is also, roughly, the start of the rainy season. From now into September the pattern is the same most days: clear morning, clouds building after lunch, a storm in the mid to late afternoon, and a clearing by evening. Lightning comes with it.
For dogs this changes the timing. The pavement is hot before noon, and the storms come in the afternoon. Walks move to sunrise and after dinner. A midday visit becomes a yard break, water, and air conditioning.
- Sunrise dog walks and storm-timed visits. We schedule around the afternoon window rather than into it.
- Hurricane prep as a service starts now, not in September. A pre-storm prep visit is $95, a post-storm check is $95, and both are free for monthly home-watch clients. The prep visit is bringing in the lanai furniture and whatever else is on your list, then sending you photos.
One note on the storms themselves. Wesley Chapel is inland and outside the coastal storm-surge evacuation zones. The risk here is wind, lost power, and debris rather than surge. That said, evacuation orders can still apply to manufactured homes and to low-lying or flood-prone parcels anywhere in Pasco County. Check your address on the Pasco County evacuation-zone finder, and if an order applies to your home, follow it.
July and August: peak heat and the camp gap
July and August are the hottest stretch of the year, and they hold the hardest childcare weeks in Wesley Chapel: the ones between the end of summer camp and the start of school. Hillsborough students go back on Monday, August 10, 2026, and Pasco students on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The gap is measured in days for some families and weeks for others, and it lands on parents who have used their vacation time already.
- Babysitting for the camp gap, by the day or the week.
- Homework help starts when school does. It is $38 an hour, or $145 for a block of 4 one-hour sessions, and the first weeks of school are when a standing slot is easiest to set.
- Pet visits for the dog that suddenly has an empty house from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. once the kids are back in school.
September: the peak and the second wave
The statistical peak of hurricane season is around September 10, and the most active stretch runs from mid-August to mid-October. Have the prep plan written down before this month, not during it. It is also the month the lovebugs come back for a second 4-week run, so the car needs washing again.
- Hurricane prep and post-storm checks for the year-round house and for the seasonal house whose owner is still in Michigan.
- Home watch for the empty winter homes, on the monthly plan that already includes storm visits.
October: the snowbirds begin to return
The rain eases and the first seasonal residents start arriving in late October. The open-up visit is the reverse of April: a walkthrough before the owner lands, the fridge on, the water on, the lanai furniture back out, the mail stacked on the counter.
- Home watch open-up visits for owners arriving over the next few months.
- Pet visits for the arriving households whose dog rode down with them and now needs a midday letout.
November and December: holiday travel
Both school districts are off the week of Thanksgiving, November 23 through 27, 2026, and both take winter break from December 21 through January 1, with students back on Tuesday, January 5, 2027. Plenty of families here travel north for the holidays, and the pets stay.
- Pet overnights for the week away, $95 a night in your home, with a midday visit added if you like.
- Babysitting for parties. Holiday parties at the clubhouse or a neighbor's house, and an adult at your house with the kids.
- Errands. The gift return, the grocery run before the guests land, the pharmacy pickup for a parent, at $30 an hour.
- Companion visits for the parent who is alone this year, and for the family that is hosting and needs a few hours back.
The whole year in one paragraph
Winter is full. Spring empties the seasonal houses and brings the lovebugs. Summer is heat, storms, and the gap between camp and school. Fall is the height of hurricane season, then the return of the snowbirds, then the holidays.
